Update posted 4 years ago

Thank you to everyone who has already donated! We've already raised $950 (and received some food donations) in less than 24 hours - that's 2,375+ meals. You all rock!

My name is Katie Siegel and I'm a neighbor in Wood Acres. Like many of you, I've been watching current events unfold and wishing there was something I could do to help. I'm hoping that by organizing this fundraiser and food drive, we can come together and make a huge impact on our community!

Everyday, more people in our region are struggling with access to food and our support is needed now more than ever to help those most in need. The Capital Area Food Bank — which normally serves about 400,000 people — is really feeling the effects of social distancing. Right now, they are dealing with a decline in food donations and volunteers at the same time they are experiencing an increase in demand.

Please consider helping in one of the following ways if you can:

  1. Make a monetary donation on this website (https://giving.capitalareafoodbank.org/story/Woodacres)! For every dollar donated, the Capital Area Food Bank can provide 2.5 meals.
  2. Donate food this week. From March 21st - March 29th, you can either drop-off your items in my front yard or I can come pick it up from outside your house. Send me an email at Khmangan@gmail.com to arrange either a pick-up or drop-off. I'll drive our donations to the Food Bank on Monday, March 30th.
  3. Share our fundraising page with family and friends via email or social media.

As we make trips to the store, place online food delivery orders, or perhaps notice a surplus in our own pantries, look for items on the Food Bank’s list of “Most Wanted Foods”. These include: canned or dried beans, canned vegetables, peanut butter, hot and cold cereals, grains, 100% fruit juice, canned tuna/salmon/fish, healthy snacks (raisins, granola bars), and canned fruit.
